Dave has extensive experience in the ski industry, commencing with 11 years at Sunshine Village (from Ski Patrol and Maintenance to Vice President of Mountain Operations), then moving to Jasper to manage Marmot Basin Ski Area in Jasper National Park.
Two years after starting at Marmot Basin, Dave was tasked with managing Naskiska Ski Area for two years, in parallel with his management role at Marmot Basin. Dave was a long standing member of Canada West Ski Areas Association, CWSAA from 1982 – 2019, voted in as Chairman of the board twice, was Chairman of the Risk Management Committee, and, travelled internationally with CWSAA for Ski Area Education; 4 European countries, 5 US states. Dave was a board member, then Present of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce early 90s. He was a founding member of the Jasper Rotary Club and previously Banff Club Ski. He resides as an owner in Creekside over the winter months.
Shawn Lee - Shawn and his wife, Jocelyn, moved to Vernon from Alberta in 1984 with four children and 2 more to come. Discovering the sunshine of Silver Star Resort, skiing became their major winter recreation. At least four little Lee’s terrorized the instructors of the “Stardusters “program as the whole family learned to ski at Silver Star.
Besides being a dedicated family man, Shawn is an entrepreneur and a professional. A dentist, he has successfully operated his Vernon dental practice for 36 years. Shawn has significant experience in the governance of organizations, and is proud of his ability to address conflicting viewpoints in a respectful, collegial, and collaborative manner. As a Vernon City Councillor, he supported major initiatives to improve traffic flow in Vernon, served on the Arts Council of the North Okanagan, and served on the Okanagan Regional Library board where he participated on the steering committee for the realization of the new Vernon Branch. He later served as president of the Arts Council of the North Okanagan, focusing, successfully, on raising its profile.
In addition to his community involvement, Shawn contributed to his profession both locally as president of the Vernon and District Dental Society and as president of the Thompson Okanagan Dental Society, and provincially by serving eleven years on the Council of the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. While on this council he chaired the Quality Assurance Committee. Shawn has also served on the Silver Creek Lodge strata council.
In 2005, Shawn and Jocelyn bought a condominium in Silver Creek Lodge, expanding the opportunity for enjoyment of the “Hill”, even as their family expanded to include 12 grandchildren, and the tradition continues.
Tim Dekker
Silver Star Mountain Resort serves as the year-round home of Tim and his wife Sue. Tim and Sue have owned property at Silver Star since 2006, originally in the Snowbird Lodge and in 2018 purchased a single-family home on the Knoll. Visits to Silver Star (driving with 4 children from Brandon Manitoba!) started in the late 1990’s and Silver Star’s vibrancy served as a key factor in making this their retirement home. After a 34-year career as a Chartered Professional Accountant with MNP LLP, a national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada, Tim retired in 2017.
Since retiring, Tim and Sue have been able to spend time travelling, skiing of course, biking – both downhill and cross country at Silver Star, golfing and spending more time with their four children plus spouses and significant others and their two grandchildren.
For many years Tim was involved with the Snowbird Lodge strata council and in June 2017 became involved with the Silver Star Marketing Task Force which established the Resort Association. Presently, Tim and Sue do not rent their home nor have any commercial interests at Silver Star Mountain Resort.
